I can't tell which art style I like better on the houses.
The 4x4 map is definitely a jab at Fortnite, smaller map for quicker games. Should be a lot of fun though haha
Yeah, it's cool that they are looking to add more variety. They've got a lot of ideas and content coming down the pipeline from the sounds of it. I'm so glad the game is maintaining an active development cycle.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.ig&hl=en
Oh hey there it is! I don’t know how I missed it when I just searched
haha I have a couple coworkers that play form time to time. Is it worth checking out?
Absolutely I think so. It's free and you have a shot at winning $5000 twice a day. And usually $25k+ on Sundays
From what I've heard its fun but nearly impossible to even win. They always have a weird gotcha question
It is hard. I haven't one once. But it's fun and pretty effortless
I don't trust HQ. Something big and bad is gonna happen with it, mark my words.
Fear of the unknown and lack of knowledge, to be honest. A friend and I spent a good bit of time researching them and their business model and we can't find any real way they could be making money and any real endgame. They keep on building and investing more money, money that is coming from seemingly nowhere, and I'm assuming they have some goal. Especially because they are good at what they do, the creators are some of the same developers from Vine and Twitter, I believe. They even had ads during the Olympics. Not like commercials, but ads that would pop up during the events so the most amount of people would see them. They're just building up their masses of followers. And their ads don't even say "Play HQ!" They say "Download HQ!" I'm just suspicious is all, and conspiracy theories are fun, haha. My views will change fast the minute I get new information, but that's all the info I have right now.
Sorry, if that's all over the place. It's finals week and my thoughts are not the most coherent currently.
I think they might be making money the same way a game like Jeopardy makes money, advertising and promoting other company's products. They ask questions about products and companies pay them for it. I've never played but I heard they usually have a couple of "sponsored" trivia questions per round.
I mean that makes a bit of sense. But enough to give away ten thousand dollars a day? That does make me a but less skeptical tho
Well this throws my advertising and promotions idea out the window. Apparently they are backed by rich venture capitalists who think the app will one day be popular enough to make lots of money doing ads and promotion stuff. But they have not made any deals with other companies yet.
Oh, so that makes me skeptical again because that was my first idea haha but I mean the same thing kinda happened with vine. They just build a good foundation then sell it off.
Yeah, it could potentially be a really good way of advertising other products but they are just focusing on building the user base for now I guess. Still weird how apps like this work.
Also, the idea of winning like $20 isn't that enticing to me. It's not as exciting when its split among all the winners but it makes sense.
Yeah no revenue generation yet - just investments from venture capitalists. They haven't publicly discussed concrete plans on how to make money.
I just think it's light hearted fun with a bit of money to win. Even if it's like $3 it's still fun to play with like a million other people at the same time. I would love to be one of the few to win out of a million. Hard af though. Haven't won
Yesterday someone won $50,000 in ~20 minutes after answering 21 questions correctly in a row.
On Wednesday, they're giving away $250,000
4 people just won $25k.
1 person won $50k last night.
1 person won $25k two weeks ago.
They give away $10k every day at a minimum.
On Wednesday they’re giving away $250k.
It takes < 15 min to play and it’s fun - if you don’t even try you’re a fool!

I just bought robonaughts today because it was 80% off and is $3. It's just like a 1-2 player arcade game though. Nothing like Zelda or Mario Odyssey.
I also bought thumper a while back when it was on sale. It's a pretty entertaining indie game for short bursts of time. It calls itself a "rhythmic horror" game haha
I usually just scan the best sellers and on sale games once a week or so and look for anything interesting. Then I check the reviews online before buying since it's really hard to tell if a game is good or not in the store. I wish they had some sort of built in review system.
I agree he store isn’t enough. I’ll check out the two you mentioned.
The Switch lacks real quality games imo. Just waiting for smash bros at this point, but that’s still not a storyline game
I've also heard Doom is a really good fps but I've been waiting for it to go on sale since it's $60
Isn’t doom like from the 90s? I think I remember my dad playing that on his computer when I was younger and him and my mom not letting me watch
Haha I just looked it up and there have actually been many Doom games. The most recent came out for Xbox, PS4, and pc in 2016 and was ported over to the switch last year.
Ahh okay lol it looks more interesting than most games in the Nintendo eShop. Hopefully it goes on sale!
I have Doom on my PC and it is really good at making you feel badass. You kill guys by ripping their bodies apart, great for stress release. It's a good game but doesn't have a whole lot of substance, I'd recommend it if you can get it for around $30.
My coworker said the whole thing was super smash Bros. Did they talk about anything else?
I stopped watching just before Super Smash Bros. The ones I cared about were:
* Super Mario Party
* Fortnite
** Getting Mew in Let's Go (Pikachu|Eevee) if you buy the Pokeball Plus accessory
Whoa, they are going to have fortnite? Honestly, I'd probably play that. Also, how did Super Mario Party look? I'm looking forward to that.
Yeah. It's available now! I'm curious to see how it performs on the go when I'm using some public wifi somewhere.
Super Mario Party looked pretty sweet to me. Very excited for that. Been patiently waiting for the classic party-style games like Mario Part and Smash Bros to come to the Switch.
Since when?! We should try playing together. Although the Switch doesn't have voice chat which is kind of annoying. We can use the discord app on our phones I suppose.
Yeah, I'm ready to happily give up the cash for both of those games haha
Personal highlights for me:
* Pokemon Lets Go will be available November 16
* Fortnite is available now
* Super Mario Party has a cool way of physically connecting multiple Switch devices to rearrange the screens. Comes out October 5
* Super Smash Bros Ultimate will feature every fighter from every Smash Bros game in history. Also will work with Gamecube controllers for ppl who prefer that. Comes out December 7
And yeah I'm down to try Fortnite! I guess it became available at 10:00am this morning. Agreed about no voice-chat being annoying. Never heard of the discord app. Will want to use that if no voice chat is available natively
According to this article, Fortnite is the first switch game to support in game voice chat! Althought, that would mean I have to play handheld for my headphones to reach.
Oh that's awesome!! But yeah the headphone port being on the actual device is problematic. If Fortnite goes well on the Switch, I will probably get bluetooth
Does the switch support bluetooth natively or would you need to get the headphone jack to bluetooth converter kind?
Hmm, well still excited! Biggest con for the Switch has been it’s lack of games. Looks like that’s on the up and up!
Yeah, definitely. I might hit you up when I get home if you want to try connecting on fortnite to try it out.
Haha yeah, this is great. I caught it when they aired it live at e3 and for a couple seconds when they were leading up to the video, I thought they were serious..
Does anyone know if you can get Amazon 20% discount on pre-orderings games to digital copies of the game? I want to get the 20% discount but I also would rather have the digital download version rather than a physical copy
Yeah Amazon offers Prime members 20% of pre-orders for physical copies of games, along with some other video-game related perks:
In my mind the physical copy comes with the ability to download the game (The serial/game key). But things may have changed...
I don't believe that is the case with Nintendo Switch. Would be nice though
There's a game on sale on steam right now called screeps where you write code to control little drones and build up a base. So you pretty much are creating AI that will run even when you're offline. There's a public server but we could also have a private server with just us in it and see who could make the best AI. You can make them fight and steal from each other and stuff too, so it could get pretty interesting. Oh, and you write the code in JavaScript so its actually kinda useful. I just got it, so lemme know if any of you decide to check it out.
40% off right now, $9. I'm in if you guys are haha seems like even the guys without gaming pcs could play just fine. The entire game is 500MB and that's the only system requirement haha looks pretty simple.
Yea the UI is pretty much just a console and then some basic shapes to represent the drones and walls and stuff. I'm probably gonna finish the tutorial tonight so we could see about setting up a server. They make it pretty easy.
Yeah, private server sounds the best. The official servers have fees and CPU limits and you can't control the game speed from the sound of it.
They have a free trial thing, so you can test if it'll work. But, I'm pretty sure it will work on pretty much anything haha
Can a chromebook run like a browser game? If it can, then it should be able to run this. I think the tutorial might even be in browser
I think it's like an android OS and you can't install much, if anything (maybe in dev mode).
chromebooks can't install. pixelbooks now have a linux subsystem hidden under the covers that allows you to install applications
Yea the first aticle I saw said: To run Steam on Chromebook, buy a cheap Windows Laptop.
Okay, well then you need something that lets you install stuff haha but there is a "live tutorial" on their website so the requirements are quite low, other than the install thing....
Yeah, probably. Seems like you need to have steam installed one way or the other. My chromebook is dual booted with crouton and a separate linux desktop. There are lots of tutorials out there that make it pretty straight forward but it is a bit of effort. Would also allow Kyle to run Bash and a code editor which he might appreciate.
On an unrelated note: I’ve gotten first in Solo on Fortnite two games in a row now. Booyah
Also, I just bought Screeps. Kyle, maybe you can use your work computer? Not sure how much they lock down work computers at Amazon but we can pretty much do whatever with ours.
Yeah I could use my work laptop but I don’t really want to use it for too much stuff outside of work
Sounds good. I'll probably have time this weekend
Guys add me as a friend on Pokémon Go.
Here’s my trainer code: 0136 0906 6666
Idk i opened it up the other day walking around
Also, it's a good time to stock up since I hear you can transfer them to the switch game later haha
Yes to both! Almost all the Pokemon I see now are Pokemon I don't have. They've added Pokemon from both the Johto and Hoenn regions
Haha yeah, it's a good game. I feel like I would play it more if I had people to play with and wasn't always so distracted by Battle Royale!
It shows a day range above each game, is that the time frame at which they are available or at which you need to claim them?
But I also have been able to click "claim offer" on all of them. So I'm not sure how it works
Will we ever understand why Google does the things it does... This seems like an odd business choice for them.. but why not?
I'm glad they aren't going as far as releasing their own hardware box.
Here's the official store page for Stadia: https://store.google.com/product/stadia_founders_edition?utm_source=promo&utm_medium=email_crm&utm_campaign=GS102726
That's a nice store page. And the games list is impressive.
Yeah, I won't be preordering the pro package but I'm definitely interested in the free version if the reviews for it post release sound solid.
Same. Although, I'm unsure how much value this is if you will only play on your gaming PC. Sure you don't have to download the games, but storage space shouldn't be a problem nowadays and download times are tolerable
Yeah, but this is just a tiny casting device you can plug into your tv and play from the couch. Or bring to your friends house and plug into their tv. It looks like it's the size of a chromecast. No gaming PC necessary.
I guess you could use your PC as well. It says it will work across all sorts of devices.
It's not a chromecast but I think the device you get for playing games from a TV (if you don't want to use your pc or phone at the time) functions very similarly to a chromecast in that it is streaming content from the cloud.
Yeah it looks like for tv play, they are bundling it in with the chromecast (which makes sense from their business perspective). I'm firmly in the firetv camp.
Right you can use your PC, which is where my comments above come from.
Got it. I'm not sure if it's actually a chromecast although it looks very similar. We have a couple chromecast devices and they look slightly different. Maybe that pic is just of the "next gen" version or something.
Footnote 1 on the page:
¹Gameplay experience will vary depending on internet connection and device. 4K-capable HDTV and high-speed broadband internet connection required to play in 4K. *Google Chromecast Ultra required to play on TV.* 4K, 60 FPS, HDR, and 5.1 surround sound only available to Stadia Pro subscribers. Non-subscribers may experience up to 1080p and 60 FPS.
Damn if they aren't even supporting previous Chromecasts for this, that's a bummer
Well, I have the basic chromecast. The ultra was already available when I bought mine but it costs twice as much and does 4k and probably has faster hardware. I didn't need it since I don't have a 4k TV. That is a bummer nonetheless though. It requires more of a buy in from me to try it out.
You need a minimum download speed of 10mbps just to play at 720p and 60fps
It's really not worth it. I can see throttling from ISPs coming form a mile away
I tested my connection and I'm getting like 60 (and I'm on the cheap plan!) so if you live in a place like Seattle I don't really see speed being a problem. However, you are totally right about ISPs. They are going to be on this like vultures. Although maybe not. We already consume data over the internet in lots of other ways. I just checked and Netflix requires 5mbps in order to stream 1080p so it's not that different.
I agree with Brandon, 10mbps nowadays is nothing
Speaking of our internet, Hasan Minhaj's latest episode of Patriot Act talks all about how whack our internet is in the US. You should check it out. He even made the episode available by DVD so all of the people who don't have internet access in the US can still learn about it 😬
Haven’t seen any of the latest episodes, but I enjoyed the first few he released
So many childhood memories in this humble bundle 😆

If you guys are playing Wizards Unite, add me my wizard code is: 3761 1053 5058
lol! People keep saying that to me but idk what it means
I remember reading about this a couple months ago but haven't heard about it since. What is it? The article compared it to Pokemon Go I think.
Yeah it’s also an AR game by Niantic, similar style to Pokémon Go but in the Harry Potter universe
I’m a little fuzzy on the story as I’ve skipped through a lot. You go around collecting “foundables” (confoundables?). Some spell has been cast across the wizard world that risks exposing everything to the muggles and you’re helping fix/clean it up
Instead of throwing poke balls you are casting spells
haha I haven't gotten it but I considered it. I feel like I have too many games to play already 😵 I bet it's fun though!
We build our own PCs here. If you wanna game on a PC, build your own. It's easy and fun.
I have an Xbox Series X. I'm a fan of the Xbox game pass.
Sony has the best exclusives though. I've been tempted to buy a PS5 just for a couple of their games because they can't be played on anything else
I have always been an xbox person, but Im finding more and more people switching to pc gaming, and the main reason I game is to game with friends, hense my interest in dipping my toes in to the PC world
Building definitely sounds fun, but I’m not sure I have the time, so leaning towards just buying…
Makes sense! I'm not sure what to recommend for buying a gaming PC. @brandon @keenin?
Yeah, I'm honestly not sure what I would recommend for pre built either. Most of the time spent building a PC is the research ahead of time. It only takes a couple hours to snap everything together once you get the parts. r/buildapc and r/buildmeapc can help a lot with that. Everything is going to be expensive right now because crypto is up.
Newegg, Amazon, and best buy are probably good options for shopping for a PC. You can get an idea of how much you need to spend by looking at the benchmark/requirements for the games you are interested in playing. Although it's always good to future proof as well.
AMD CPUs are the way to go right now. I don't have as big of an opinion on GPU but I've always loved Nvidia
No problem. Feel free to hit me up if you want more targeted advice or help with any technical assembly or setup.
Will do! Once I have some free time to do some research I will hopefully narrow down on whether I think I will build my own or buy. If I had more free time I would definitely build, but I might prioritize ease of getting started 🙂
What GPU and CPU (or top choices) would you choose if you were buying or building a gaming PC today?
I'm not really up on the current tech like some people are, but, three months ago, I had to unexpectedly get a new computer and I got a GTX 1660 Super and a i5-9400 2.4ghz. Not sure what your budget is, but this was in a prebuilt that I picked up for ~$800, if I remember correctly.
If you're down to put in a bit more money, then increment those upwards until you hit your budget. I wouldn't really recommend getting anything too much worse if you want to be playing Big Beautiful Games, but the same can be said for if your budget is lower.
If you are going prebuilt, I'd just be careful of the speeds of everything; I think that the speeds of my components is where they cheaped out. I did end up swapping out both the storage and memory in this one.
All that being said, the first thing I do every time I start a game is set all the graphics settings to ultra, and I haven't had issue yet. I don't play too many AAA games though.
NVIDIA GPU RYZEN CPU SAMSUNG PCI-E SSD G.SKILL 16GB RAM ASUS PRIME MOBO
Without more research I’d go for:
Awesome, thanks! Yeah the market is crazy right right. I am looking at an Nvidia 3060 and an Intel i7. Any ryzen CPU is substantially more expensive right now :(
Anyone trying to game tonight? I have my PC set up. So far I only have Valorant
@andelink @brandon @keenin
Not at home tonight, watching the Floyd Mayweather v Logan Paul fight! Next time though 😁
Ooh congrats! What did you go with? Valorant is a tough game to start with! Lots of players that are too good for me lol
I'm down to play whatever though! Sorry I missed this message yesterday. Had a pretty busy weekend.
I managed to get my hands on this.
Yeah, Valorant is tough, but seems fun to play if you have a group. What other games do you play?
No worries! Let's shoot for some time this week?
Nice! That looks great!
Yeah, I'm down to give it a try. I only tried it during beta and ended up uninstalling it due to the controversial anti cheat software that attempted to control some pretty low level kernel settings. I'm not sure if that's still the case though.
I recently was able to get an Xbox series X through the employee store so that's been keeping me busy, especially since it's been nice to stay away from the desk when I'm off work. I also just got a fancy new tv yesterday to go with it. It's beautiful 🤩 But PC is still the best platform for remote social games. Games I've been playing recently are rocket league and hearthstone. Pretty chill titles. But I'm also always down for a BR like PUBG, Apex Legends, or COD. Coop story titles can be fun too. I have the Xbox game pass for PC as well which gives me access to a bunch of titles. A couple of us have that which is nice because it gives us a common library to choose from. I can get it at a discount for you if interested.
Do you have discord?
While I was shopping around for desktops, so many went out of stock while I was researching 😆 It was tough to find one and pull the trigger fast enough.
Hmm, I don't recall any anti cheat stuff, but I might just be oblivious to it.
Oh fun! Great perks of working for Microsoft! 🤤 Awesome! TVs get better at such an amazing rate that a new TV is always mind blowing. They look sooooo crisp!
I will be downloading those common BR games you mentioned like Warzone, APEX, etc... today, just to have them on hand. Oooooh, coop co-op story sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play! What games are in that category do you like the most? I just downloaded Dishonored 2, since Steph and I played the first one on xbox together and loved it!
Yep, I just recently joined Discord.
The best co-op games? The LEGO games lol. Also, Portal is a classic co-op. Overcooked, Left4Dead, Risk of Rain 2
I also recently downloaded Apex again, would be down to play it!
Hadn't heard of Risk of Rain 2 before, looks fun! I haven't played much on my pc yet, so Im down for anything at this point 😄
RoR2 would be a great one to play together soon. Let's plan some time this week to play something for sure.
Woot, request accepted! Any evening (probably after 8pm) will likely work for me.
I'm usually a 5-7ish gamer but can be flexible as well. I usually just spend the later half of the evening on dinner, chores, and hanging out with Kelli.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi-MRZBP91I&feature=youtu.be
Events are literally all day long from 12:23am to 11:59pm
This is cool. I wasn’t familiar with gamesdonequick.com
Hades is tonight at 6:20pm! Curious how they define beating Hades for the purpose of speed running. There is not an obvious milestone for that in the game
Yeah, I'm curious as well. Will have to try to remember to tune in for that one.
Yeah, it's so interesting hearing them talk about the speed running strategies. They have like 3 commentators in addition to the person playing. I watched most of the Starfield one and it only took them 41 mins to beat the game :shockedfacewithexplodinghead: Lots of exploits. Not how I like to enjoy games, but it's fun to see them so enthusiastic.
It is really interesting. My cousin is really into speed running so I’ve heard some stuff from him. Things in the game that I would never think about or come up with
Are they using any glitches or exploits to speed up progress? It's more fun when they do that haha
They use a modded version of the game to help tame certain random aspects of vanilla Hades, making it easier to compare speeds. For example, in one section of Hades, your random seed dictates whether you need to fight through 2 dungeons or (up to) 5 dungeons before progressing. Their modded version makes sure each run you only get 2 dungeons in this particular section, making timed runs more fair
Oh, and it was a race between multiple players. That makes it a bit more fun to watch too I suppose. Still just normal hades gameplay though.
Yeah it was a race format. The two individuals racing were actually married! They were super impressive.
Still just normal hades gameplay thoughI mean, normal Hades gameplay is pretty awesome. I can’t remember, did you ever play it? You should try it out if you haven’t!
I wish I had gotten into Zelda. I had one on the n64, but was too young to solve the puzzles.
